My Story
I usually tell my clients in their first session that they can start with their story wherever they want. All of it is important and adds to the bigger picture of what makes them who they are.
Likewise, my story of who I am and what I bring to your sessions is best summed up in bits and pieces that span my whole life. I grew up in Texas and left for North Carolina in the middle of my Junior year in high school. I graduated with a Bachelors in English Literature and was foolish enough to think that I was going to be a bohemian artist and writer and live in the mountains.
While there, I tried a Masters program and felt unfulfilled despite making excellent grades on assignments. I tried writing and couldn’t. My ability to paint and hand build ceramics felt dried out and hollowed. My executive dysfunction from ADHD, along with my depression and anxiety were in overdrive. I ended up having to move back to Texas due to a multitude of additional reasons and felt incredibly lost.
Working for a string of unfulfilling jobs in the Energy Corridor of Houston led me to feeling even more confused and lost. Why would I question my luck in finally finding a decent job with good income? I could always be creative in the evenings and on the weekends. I finally had the health insurance to pay for seeing a doctor and a therapist regularly. Why give up what should be a success story?

A combination of soul-searching, reading self-help books, therapy, and journaling helped me to work on myself. It took a few years of getting more comfortable with success not looking like a hipster pipe dream. It had to feel authentic for me and had to be in alignment with my values and boundaries to feel safe. Around the time of some of these realizations I was probably finally ready to meet my supportive and kind husband. He renewed my faith and belief that men could be good people and also led me to consider becoming a therapist. Currently I’m a married working mom of two beautiful, intelligent, and fierce children. I’m exhausted, but fulfilled in my work, my family that I am nurturing, and my status as a human.
All of the frustration and wonder of my personal life is something that I can hopefully relate to in yours. It is because of this that the following groups of people are some of my favorites to work with:
-
Big Life Transitions
-
All of the anxiety and existential dread that go in to meaning making for life are some of my favorite things to discuss
-
-

-

I hope you find comfort in the knowledge that therapists are humans having a human experience and that I can hopefully help you on your journey to being a more fulfilled human yourself.
